Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Master Plan: 2 More Meetings Scheduled
This past January 7, 2011, the Master Plan Steering Committee and the Town Manager invited public involvement and input from the Lauderdale-By-The-Sea community in putting in place an updated Master Plan based on the Plan prepared by peter j. smith & company and approved by the Town Commission back in 2004. To that end, all interested parties were encouraged to attend “A THOUGHT PROVOKING COMMUNITY SEMINAR to be presented by David Sucher, the author of CITY COMFORTS, HOW TO BUILD AN URBAN VILLAGE with a meeting at Jarvis Hall and walk around the downtown area the following Saturday morning. It was very encouraging to see the large turn out by interested parties.
February 22nd at 5:15 PM
The next meeting has been planned for February 22, 5:15 PM at Jarvis Hall, which also deserves the attendance of all interested parties. The Town has contracted with JC Consulting Enterprises, Inc. to perform a comparative analysis of the 2004 Master Plan, the Town Charter, and the Town’s Land Development Regulations. According to the Town Administration, “the results of the analysis revealed both challenges and opportunities for which the consultant has proposed a variety of measures that may be taken to improve the Town’s regulatory framework and better address the growth management and land development issues facing the Town.” This will be a joint workshop meeting of the Town Commission, Planning & Zoning Board, and Master Plan Steering Committee.
March 1st at 6:30PM
Then, on Tuesday, March 1 at 6:30PM, another “THOUGHT PROVOKING SEMINAR” has been scheduled with ELIZABETH PLATER-ZYBERG, DEAN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI’S SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE. She will discuss “DESIGN CODES CAN PRESERVE AND BUILD UPON LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA’S SENSE OF PLACE.” All interested parties are encouraged to attend this seminar at Jarvis Hall.
