This Mediterranean favorite has become a local staple, often served at waterfront restaurants alongside crisp white wine and ocean breezes. Whether you’re grilling out by the pool or hosting friends on your patio, this dish brings a bit of the South Florida lifestyle right to your table – fresh, relaxed, and full of flavor.
Easy Grilled Octopus Recipe
Ingredients
- 2-3 pounds of fresh or frozen octopus (thawed if frozen)
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- Olive oil
- Fresh lemons
- Salt and pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Fresh parsley, chervil or oregano for garnish
Instructions
- Boil for tenderness – Place the octopus in a large pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce to a gentle simmer and cook for 40-60 minutes. When a fork slides easily into the thickest part, then it is ready.
- Remove from the pot, pat dry and cut into manageable pieces for the grill. Toss with olive oil, oregano and garlic. Let it marinate for at least 60 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator.
- Heat your grill to medium high heat. Sprinkle the octopus with salt and pepper. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side until lightly charred.
- Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil
- Garnish and serve with lemon wedges, and fresh chopped herbs of your choice.
Serve while hot as an appetizer. If you prefer, toss with a salad or some grilled vegetables.
Grilled octopus pairs nicely with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or a dry sparkling Rose.
