A Florida Favorite

Smoked fish dip is definitely a South Florida favorite and it is common to see it on many local menus. I’ll bet you didn’t realize how easy it is to make at home. This fish dip makes a great appetizer or snack.

My recipe is made with local King Mackerel, or Kingfish. These gamefish are fun to catch and are known as “Smokers” because they put up a good fight and “smoke” the reel when they run. But they are also known as Smokers by local anglers because they make an amazing smoked fish dip. This recipe can be made with just about any local fish, with other local versions featuring Marlin, Wahoo and even Mahi Mahi. If you don’t have a smoker, never fear, you can buy smoked fish in most South Florida markets.


  • 16 oz of smoked Kingfish (can use any oily fish)
  • 2 cup Dukes or Hellman’s Mayonnaise
  • 8 oz  whipped cream cheese 
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire 
  • 6 tbsp chopped red onion 
  • Juice of 1 lemon & juice of 1 lime
  • Everglades Seasoning to taste and /or paprika and /or Old Bay Seasoning
  • Optional – add dill & chopped jalapeños


  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. Taste and re-season to desired taste. 
  3. Garnish with fresh parsley, green onions and lemon & lime zest.
  4. Serve with crackers, vegetables, bagel chips, pita chips or my favorite, tortilla chips.
  5. Optional: If you like it spicy then also serve with jalapeños and/or your favorite hot sauce.
